REGION — Happy New Year, 4-H! That’s right—Happy New Year!

October 1 marks the beginning of a brand new 4-H year. We say goodbye to the old year and look forward to the new one and the many opportunities it holds. Many members start planning for their livestock projects and their non-livestock projects, which they can work on and create over the long winter months.

For National 4-H Week, October 3-9, the Dime Bank in Damascus allowed the Tri-Gal 4-H Club to create a display to showcase our club and promote the 4-H program in Wayne County.

If you think 4-H is just about livestock, you may be surprised to learn that the club offers hundreds of projects in a wide range of interests, including entomology, zoology, cooking and baking, dance, sports, woodworking, knitting, arts and crafts, gardening, leadership, finance—just to name a few. And if you have an interest that is not a project, extension office educators and club leaders will work with you to create a project, proving that 4-H is for everyone.

4-H members must be five to 18 years old before January 1, 2022.

Children who are five to eight years old start as Cloverbud members. Cloverbuds use an official Cloverbud curriculum program and do not show livestock in 4-H shows.

Volunteers are welcome to assist with 4-H. They must be screened and cleared.

If you would like more information about the Wayne County 4-H program, call the Penn State Extension office at 570/253-5970 ext. 4110. The staff will help get you connected to a club near you.
