Just when you think you have had enough of this gray weather, the weekend comes along with events to keep your mind focused on other things—and this past weekend certainly was delightful in Narrowsburg.

Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA), the Winter Salon Series continued with a jazz piano concert by Joe Vincent Tranchina. Mr. Tranchina played music familiar to the audience as well as original pieces he composed. The audience responded positively with a standing ovation at the conclusion of the concert, which was followed by a Q&A session. The next program of the Winter Salon Series will be “Off the Shelf,” a program of literary readings from select passages of books found in our own Main Street book store, One Grand. The passages will be read in the Krause Recital Hall at DVAA by local actors. The program is free and takes place on Saturday, February 11 at 2 p.m. For more information call 845/252-7576.

Sunday was the celebration of the opening of the ice skating rink on Kirk Road. There really were a few spots of blue sky as skaters of all ages skated their way around the ice rink while a wonderful fire burned for the non-skaters. Many treats were donated by our local restaurants: baked potato and chili from The Heron, soup from the Laundrette, delicious desserts from The Tusten Cup and Tusten Youth Commission Moms, all topped off with hot chocolate from Pete’s Market.

Our tummies were warm with the food, our bodies warm by the fire and our hearts warm to see so many of our Tusten residents enjoying themselves. Surely the rink will be used the remainder of the winter. We are thankful to the Tusten Youth Commission for organizing the operations of the skating rink. Future hours are: Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and special ice hockey hours on Friday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Have fun!
