Monticello man arrested on felony charges

MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the Monticello Police Department arrested Philip A. Jacobs, Age 33, of Monticello on Sept. 15. Jacobs was charged with felonies of Criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree (three counts) and Criminal mischief in the 3rd degree ( four counts).

Monticello man arrested on felony charges

MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the Monticello Police Department arrested Philip A. Jacobs, Age 33, of Monticello on Sept. 15. Jacobs was charged with felonies of Criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree (three counts) and Criminal mischief in the 3rd degree ( four counts). He was also charged with the misdemeanors of Criminal possession of a Controlled substance in the 7th degree (two counts), Criminal possession of the stolen property in the 5th degree and Petit larceny. 

Jacobs was arrested following an investigation into multiple complaints received by Monticello Police of vehicles being broken into and then property stolen throughout the Village of Monticello. On Sept. 14  Monticello officers while on patrol and checking the Short Line Bus Terminal lot on Sturgis road discovered 12 vehicles that had windows broken out. Officers continued making checks of the lot throughout the day and overnight hours. At 2:30 a.m. this morning Officers checking the lot discovered an additional 3 vehicles with windows broken out. While checking those vehicles, Philips was discovered hiding in the backseat of one of them. Philips was then taken into custody. Philips was found to be in possession of Credit/Debit cards that had been stolen and were used or had been attempted to be used at different business locations. He was also illegally in possession of heroin and a crack pipe when arrested. 

Philips was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court before Judge Douglas Solomon. Philips was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $20,000 cash bail, $40,000 bail bond or $60,000 secured insurance bond pending further court action. An investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
