Monticello father and son arrested for using stolen credit card

Press Release: Members of the Monticello police arrested Lawrence Wilson Sr, age 42 and Lawrence Wilson Jr, age 23, both of Monticello on Friday 11/30/18. Both defendants were charged with the felonies of Forgery in the 2nd degree, 2 counts of Criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree and misdemeanor Petit larceny.

The defendants were arrested following an investigation into the use of a stolen debit card belonging to another Monticello man. The victim reported that when he went to use his debitcard at a local convenience store he found that it had been stolen from the glove box of his vehicle. An investigation by Monticello police revealed that the defendants, while acting in concert with each other, did fraudulently use the stolen debit cardon 11/28/18 at a Village of Monticello business.  Officers utilized the businesses video surveillance system to help identify the defendants.

On Friday 11/30/18 Monticello police observed Lawrence Wilson Sr operating a vehicle on Broadwaywhile in accompaniment with his son, Lawrence Wilson Jr. The defendants were stopped and arrested. The stolen debit card was also recovered from the vehicle’s center console. Lawrence Wilson sr was additionally charged with misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree, as he was operating the vehicle with 12 active suspensions on his NYS driver license.

Both defendants were arraigned before acting Village of Monticello justice Leo Glass and remanded to the Sullivan county jail pending further court action. Lawrence Wilson sr was remanded without bail and Lawrence Wilson Jr bail was set at $1000.00.
