Creation and Christmas

SHOHOLA, PA — The Barryville Area Arts Association is celebrating all holiday traditions with two themed displays of classic art and a display of work by our most talented local artisans. 

“The Story of Christmas in Classic Art” includes 10 classic prints depicting the Christian tale of Christmas. 

Another exhibit, “Creation Stories from Around the World,” includes artistic representations of 10 different creation stories associated with major, obscure and extinct religions. 

Also on display is a large selection of one-of-a-kind items, created by local artists and suitable for gifts.

The free reception on Saturday, December 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Artists’ Market Community Center includes refreshments, art, music and hot chocolate. The classic artwork exhibits and work of local artisans will be on display from now through Friday, December 27.

Holiday artisans’ market

HONESDALE, PA — On Sunday, December 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Cooperage will host its eighth annual holiday artisans’ market. The market will showcase the work of many talented artisans of the Upper Delaware Region. You’ll find two floors filled with unique handcrafted gifts for friends and family.

Dance like its 1980

‘Clue: On Stage’

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — Tri-Valley Secondary School will present “Clue: On Stage” at the Tri-Valley Bernstein Theatre on Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7 at 7 p.m., with a snow-date performance on Sunday, December 8 at 2 p.m., if needed. Based on the Paramount film and the Hasbro board game, this PG-13-rated murder-mystery comedy thriller is adapted from the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn with additional material by Hunter Foster, Sandy Rustin and Eric Price.

Stan’s Café celebrates four years

HONESDALE, PA — Stan and Michelle Rembish of Stan’s Cafe are celebrating the café’s four-year anniversary. 

“We feel our success is due to our loyal patrons who support us daily throughout the year. We feel blessed to serve the fine people of our community. Our accomplishments over the last four years are a result of the devotion and care we put into every meal we serve, as well as our warm and friendly service,” Michelle Rembish said.

‘Christmas Carol’ kicks off Grey Towers’ holiday season

MILFORD, PA — Tickets for the 39th annual dramatization of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” at Grey Towers National Historic Site are now on sale for Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 each and are available at www.grey towers.org or by calling 570/296-9625. 

The Dickens program is the kick-off for the annual holiday tour schedule at Grey Towers, when visitors can see all three floors of the decorated mansion from Monday, December 9 through Sunday, December 22, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Guided tour fees cost $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 youth and free for children under 12.

PORT JERVIS, NY — UpFront Exhibition Space will hold its winter artists reception on Saturday, December 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. Live music will be provided by Walt Edwards. There will also be a book signing for “A Tale of Tucker” by Nancy Davis-Kessler, the story of how one hen and the three alpacas became a family. 

Artists included in this show are Jesse Clemente, Nancy Davis-Kessler, Gordon Graff, Keith Helwig, Roz Hodgkins, Don Hutchinson, Peter Koenig, Karl La Londe, Charlie Lang, Karen Leenstra, Jerry O’Brian, Joe Petrosi, Billy Poolaw, Craig Smedley, Sunshine, Judith Weiss, Teddi Zelle and Elva Zingaro.

This event is open to the public and there is no admission fee. The show will run through Sunday, December 29. Gallery hours are 12 noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

‘The Gingerbread Experience’

LIBERTY, NY — On Saturdays December 7 and 14, the Liberty Museum and Arts Center in cooperation with Sullivan Performing Arts present “The Gingerbread Experience,” featuring a holiday craft show, bake sale, gingerbread house-building workshops and ornament-decorating workshops.

The gift of forgiveness 

CALLICOON, NY — On Saturday, December 7 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., River Family Wellness will invite Rebecca DeRosa to present a workshop on healing through letting go. 

The workshop will explore using meditation, restorative poses, deep breathing, visualizations and mantras to work on forgiving ourselves and others. 

The workshop fee is on a sliding scale from $15 to $25.

Holiday cookie bake-off

MONTICELLO, NY — On Tuesday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m., the Friends of Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library (EBCPL) will host the first holiday cookie bake-off. Bakers of all ages will bring their finest cookies for you to taste. Taste testers and local celebrity judges will vote on the winners in each category. Entry costs $6 per person and includes five tasting tickets. Additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase. All proceeds from this event will go to the Friends of EBCPL to help the library continue providing the programming the community needs.

Holiday in Hurleyville 

HURLEYVILLE, NY — Visit Main Street on Saturday, December 7 for a festive day of arts and activities. Holiday in Hurleyville brings together the hamlet’s Main Street businesses for an all-day event that culminates with a community tree lighting at 6 p.m. in the mini-park. There will be shopping and food available all day in the Hurleyville General Store, Gallery222, Hurleyville Market, Fiber on Main, LaSalumina, Frankie & Johnny’s, the Catskill Food Truck, Pickled Owl and beyond. Enjoy live music throughout the day by a number of local musicians.

The newly released Disney movie, “Frozen II,” will be showing at the Hurleyville Arts Centre cinema at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Santa will pay a visit to the Hurleyville Arts Centre ballroom from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Terrarium ornament workshop
