Mary Jermina Herrmann of Honesdale, PA, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY, passed away peacefully at home on November 29, 2020. Mary was born in St. Albans, Queens, NY on April 20, 1935 to James and Mary Menendez. She was the youngest of four children. As the youngest child, her brothers and sisters always said she held a special place in their family; everyone always wanted to take care of sweet Mary. The conversations and love between her and her siblings had been a staple throughout her whole life to the very end. Mary grew up in St. Albans and attended St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic School. After marrying her childhood sweetheart Edward Herrmann Sr. on May 23, 1953, they spent 12 years in Centereach, NY where they began raising their three children.

In 1968, they decided to start a new chapter in their lives. They moved their family to Narrowsburg, NY, purchasing the Lava House family resort where, for five or six years, they truly enjoyed entertaining their family and friends and guests. After they sold the business, they built another home in Lava where she resided for another 28 years.

Mary then began a new adventure when she was hired as a waitress at Woodloch Pines in Hawley, PA. For nearly 30 years, her smile was what guests came looking for when they visited. She was a friend to all and always a lot of fun to work with. She loved to join in on the after-work activities at Woodloch: waterskiing, dancing at the night club with the guests and co-workers, and even doing a skit or two in the shows when she was asked to. She made so many friends with the guests, the staff and the whole Woodloch family. They all still smile when they remember her warm welcome, open ear, caring advice, her quick wit, sweet nature and that beautiful smile.

In her retirement years, Mary loved traveling with her dear friend, Ray Rice. They enjoyed many great times in their RVs, camping up and down the East Coast to visit family. Mary also enjoyed baking, crocheting and reading, and she loved attending bible study with her friends at the Stourbridge apartments in Honesdale where she lived for a few years.

Mary was a devout Catholic all throughout her life. She was always involved and raised her children in the church. In her later years, she enjoyed giving her time to the homeless efforts at St. Ann’s in Charlotte, NC when she visited the area in the winter months, helping to prepare and serve food to the less fortunate. She did the same in Honesdale to some area churches over a few Thanksgivings. She was always happy to help those in need and enjoyed being a part of the Christian fellowship.

Mary was a beautiful lady inside and out! Her children and grandchildren will always remember her as being one of the sweetest ladies they have ever been blessed to know. Her strength, despite three strokes, always prevailed. Her smile was always present. Her love was infinite!

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edward Herrmann Sr.; her son, David Herrmann; and her brother, Jim Menendez. She is survived by her son, Edward Herrmann Jr., and daughter-in-law, Cyd Herrmann, of Barryville, NY; her daughter, Karen DeSantis, and son-in-law, Anthony DeSantis, of Honesdale, PA; her sister, Patricia Hunt of Boise, ID and her brother, Edward McNamee, of Whiting, NJ. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.

The Mass and burial services were officiated by Father Dennis Dinan at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Cemetery on Friday, December 4.

Our family is extremely grateful to the phenomenal team at Wayne Home, Health and Hospice for the care they provided to Mary during her last months before she began her journey home to heaven. Any donations to this wonderful organization in Mary’s name to recognize them would be a blessing.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville, NY (845/557-8010).
