Man found hiding under mattress, arrested

Monticello Police arrested Kannon Palmer, age 25, of Monticello on Thursday 8/23/18. At 9:30 pm Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the Monticello Meadows apartment complex located on Shaker Heights drive in the Village of Monticello.  A witness reported seeing a male climb up a balcony at the apartment complex and then force his way through a sliding door. The apartment tenant who was at work responded to the scene and met officers with officers, allowing them to enter through the front door. Monticello officers with assistance from New York State Police searched the apartment and located palmer hiding under a mattress. Palmer was pulled out from under the mattress by Monticello Police K9 “DECA” and taken into custody.

Palmer was charged with the felony of Burglary in the 2nd degree and misdemeanors for Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree and Resisting Arrest. Palmer was also wanted by the Monticello Police on two separate arrest warrants. Palmer failed to appear in the Village of Monticello court following a 7/15/18 arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was also wanted on an arrest warrant from 7/19/18 charging him with misdemeanors for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and harassment 2nd degree as the result of a domestic dispute.

Palmer was arraigned before Village of Monticello Acting justice Leo glass and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond pending further court action.
