WAYNE COUNTY, PA — A 47-year-old man, George Hazimof, was recently charged with selling drugs that resulted in the fatal overdose of Jeffrey Canfield of Honesdale, who died in September of last year.

According to District Attorney A.G. Howell’s office, Hazimof faces a maximum of 40 years and a fine of $25,000 if found guilty for this first degree felony. He was remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail, where he was already being held on $60,000 bail in two other cases.

Police found Canfield deceased in his bedroom on September 28, 2019. Through forensic examinations of Canfield’s and Hazimof’s cell phones, detectives say they have found evidence of drug deals between the two men, including one on the day police believe Canfield died, September 26.

An autopsy report concludes that Canfield died from a fentanyl overdose.

At press time, Hazimof was scheduled for court on Wednesday, January 15 at 9 a.m. in Central Court.
