MILFORD — Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced charges against a York County man for attempted trafficking and rape of a ten-year-old child.
Detectives from the District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division charged Jayson Willam Miller, age 54, of Red Lion, Pennsylvania with the charges of criminal attempt trafficking in persons criminal attempt rape of a child, criminal attempt patronizing a victim of sexual servitude, criminal attempt involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and unlawful contact with a minor, all felonies. The charges of attempted trafficking in persons and attempted patronizing a victim of sexual servitude are human trafficking offenses under Pennsylvania Law.
According to the affidavit of probable cause supporting the charges, Detectives at the District Attorney’s Office obtained information that Miller was willing to travel to Pike County to engage in sexual contact with a ten-year-old child for payment of $200.00. When Miller arrived at the location detectives arrested him. In his possession detectives found a bag with candy that Miller brought for the girl.
Tonkin credited the dedication of the detectives in the District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division to protect children from child predators.
“This squad of detectives is dedicated to protecting children from those that prey on the most vulnerable of our community. We will investigate and prosecute child predators to the absolute best of our ability to remove them from society”, Tonkin stated. Tonkin also thanked the Milford Police Department for their assistance with the arrest.
Miller was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Randy Schmalzle who set bail at $ 250,000.00. Miller was taken to Pike County Correctional Facility in lieu of posting bail.
Miller will face a court appearance in Pike County Central Court later this month.
