A few words from Annemarie Schuetz

Posted

My childhood bedroom was pink. Not baby pink, bright pink. Apparently I picked this out, something close to fuschia, and on the paint chip it seemed like a good idea. In reality it was… very pink. My sister chose yellow, which proved she had better taste and color sense than I did, and her room was much nicer to be in.

Now I live in a Victorian house with mostly original wallpaper and paint. The kitchen is battleship grey (bad idea), the dining room, bedrooms and sitting room all have different wallpapers (mostly good, but one so ghastly that we covered it with bookshelves). One might say that we should paint away the awful, but that requires me to learn to properly paint a room.

We are here to help you make better choices. Color consultant Karen Gray-Plaisted explains why we lack confidence with color and how important it is to get the color right. Susan Cottle has an artist’s take on color: what it is, how you can learn to truly see it, what potential it holds. The internet offers tips, advice and images galore so you can learn about how color affects us. Barbara Winfield gives us easy-to-follow suggestions on how to introduce more color into your home, and we tell you a little bit about Kim and Kanye’s colorless pad.

May you surround yourself with the colors you need.
