ELDRED, NY — In a season when the number of weekend festivals in Sullivan County may drop off, Adrienne Hloderwski created an event to bring the community together on Saturday, January 11. People young and old arrived through the January chill for the first LEGO™ Show at Sullivan Public in Eldred. LEGO™ displays were created by students aged four and older in Hloderwski’s LEGO™ Club, which happens weekly at Sullivan Public. LEGO™ setups were also contributed by other children, teens, adults and seniors in the community.
“LEGO™ allows the chance to share our creativity on a uniquely imaginative level, something everyone experiences differently but we can all connect on and enjoy together,” says Hloderwski.
The LEGO™ displays included a moving train set, LEGO™ ornaments hung from a wreath, the Eiffel Tower surrounded by safari animals and cats, a Star Wars-esque battle scene whose maker creatively moved the characters every 15 minutes to simulate ongoing action, and LEGO™ dragons and flowers nestled among items that feature some of the other offerings at Sullivan Public, such as sewing and pottery classes.
There were LEGO™ magazines to read, a LEGO™ scavenger hunt to complete and additional community members who offered baked goods for sale and scientific experiments with light and sound to engage in.
Winter LEGO™ Club continues at Sullivan Public on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., with signup available at sullivanpublic.com. Hloderwski also offers LEGO™ Club at Fallsburg Elementary School and will host a drop-in LEGO™ Club at Ratty Books in Jeffersonville for ages three-plus, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. beginning Saturday, February 22.
