Legislator appointed to national committee

LIBERTY, NY – Sullivan County Legislator Luis Alvarez (D-6) has been appointed to the Health Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties (NACo).

NACo President James Gore notified Alvarez of his appointment, recognizing his prior service on NACo committees and his commitment to public service. Alvarez formerly chaired the Sullivan County Legislature and is a retired sheriff’s deputy. He has been involved with NACo since 2017 and also serves on the board of the NYS Association of Counties.

“I strongly believe in NACo’s mission and am proud to represent Sullivan County at the national level,” Alvarez said. “I remain committed to my neighbors as their legislator, but it’s important to recognize that we’re part of a larger system of government that constantly needs review and improvement.”

NACo, founded in 1935, advocates for county priorities in federal policymaking, promotes exemplary county policies and practices, and aims to optimize county resources and taxpayer savings while enriching the public’s understanding of county government.
