HONESDALE, PA — This Valentine’s Day, take time to learn how to live well with your diabetes. More than 30.3 million Americans have diabetes, including 7.2 million who have yet to be officially diagnosed.

“If you are newly diagnosed or do not have your diabetes under control, come and learn how to manage diabetes, stay healthy and prevent complications,” said Carol Kneier, certified diabetes educator at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Studies show balancing the food you eat with exercise and medicine, if prescribed, can help control weight and keep blood glucose in the healthy range. “I’ve noticed the individuals who received education have better control and understanding of their diabetes,” said Kneier. “The knowledge gained from these classes gives them the tools needed to better manage their diabetes and live healthier lives.”

The “Living Well with Diabetes” classes offered by Kneier will cover a basic understanding of the disease and medications used to treat diabetes, the benefits of exercise and the role of food in diabetes management, menu planning, label reading, glucose monitoring and good care from head to toe. Kneier has more than a decade of experience in diabetes education. 

The classes will take place at Wayne Memorial Hospital on three consecutive Thursday evenings, February 14, 21 and 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost for this three-session program is $50 per person.
