I have to start my column off by saying I am truly blessed with the best readers. I’m really enjoying being out and about and people coming up and telling me how they enjoy reading the Lake Huntington News.

On Sunday, I had the pleasure to be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church’s 150th anniversary. The mass was beautiful, and the three Roycroft kids Ariel, Billy and Jonathan did a great job as altar servers. Pastor Phyllis did a wonderful service and lunch at Woodloch Pines was yummy.

I realize most of you know after all these years that I am not the school tax collector, but this is important. Taxpayers should be aware that the Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office will not be collecting school taxes this November. The Sullivan County Legislature approved the change earlier this year.

“Each school district in Sullivan County has determined to end their tax collection on different dates,” explained Treasurer Nancy Buck. “I strongly urge taxpayers to review their school tax bills carefully to ensure they are aware of the last day to pay their school taxes.”

The county will continue to re-levy any unpaid school taxes onto the individual taxpayer’s January 2020 county and town tax bill.

Saturday, September 21 is half way to St. Patrick’s Day at the Lakeview Pizzeria. Yes, I know George is Italian, but, man, can he make a delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner. Stop by anytime from 4:30 to 9. To make a reservation, or for more information, call 845/932-8131.

On Sunday, September 22, the Cochecton Preservation Society is hosting Coffee, Tea and History at 1 p.m. Guest speakers are Fred Stabbert, who will talk about “TREES,” and Dr. Nancy Hackett, who will talk about the one-room schoolhouses of our area. On Saturday, October 5, the Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid will hold their penny social; doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling begins at 12:30 p.m. There will be hot dogs, sauerkraut, water and soda for purchase, with cake and coffee served after the calling.
