What a busy summer I am having. Last weekend, I went to George Schalk’s memorial down at Lander’s. George’s wife, Maureen, put on a fabulous party; everyone was sharing stories and memories of George. Maureen’s best friend made a body pillow from George’s shirts and gave it to her. She held it and danced to their wedding song—yes, I was bawling. I am going to give her my late husband Tommy’s shirts and have a blanket made, stains and all. It was very nice seeing Diane from Jeff Sanitation, Dr. Linda Borrelli and so many others. I am sure George was there in spirit, smiling down on Maureen.
I would like to thank Ned Lang, Rick Lander and anyone else who helped put on a great fireworks display. I watched the Macy’s fireworks on TV. It’s always a great show; I love how they put the music to it.
I would just like to remind everyone: If you do not have your 911 numbers posted, please try and put them up to help out all the volunteers in the ambulance and fire company. Make sure they are in a spot that is easy to see at night.

There is still an opening on the board; if you are interested, reach out. Meetings are once a month.
There are rumors that Tony’s on the Lake was sold, and I cannot find out if this is true or not. When I do, I will let you all know. It would be great to have that opened again. I miss Pete’s Pub so much, working there and all the great people that I would always see. Let’s hope Pete and Anta send blessings down to get it open again—the working man’s county club.
Heinle’s is looking for a person to run the store; the sign reads “TURN KEY DELI FOR RENT 516/790-6573.” So if you are thinking of opening a deli, give Laura and Nick call.
