‘Knotweed, a Tough Love’

ONLINE — The National Park Service (NPS) and the Ten Mile River Scout Museum will be conducting several live online talks covering the natural habitat of the Sullivan County Catskills.

On Tuesday, August 4, a discussion about knotweed species management options for containment and how we can use it for our benefit, “Knotweed, a Tough Love,” will take place at 7 p.m. It will be led by NPS biologist Jessica Newbern

Museum Chairman Michael Drilinger and other trustees will moderate all talks. A question-and-answer session will be held after each discussion. All will be available on the museum’s YouTube channel.

Delaware Highlands Conservancy photography contest

UPPER AND MIDDLE DELAWARE REGION, PA AND NY — The Delaware Highlands Conservancy is holding its third annual juried photo contest for the Upper Delaware River region, open to professional and amateur photographers. “Nature Heals: Restore, Renew, Reconnect” invites photographers to capture striking nature-inspired photos in five categories: landscape, wildlife, macro, water and, new this year, a youth category for photographers under age 18. Without disturbing or harming any creature or its habitat, photographers are encouraged to be creative in showcasing the diverse wildlife, plants and special places of our region.

Photos will be judged on creativity, originality, composition, clarity and quality, and impact, and must be taken in the Upper Delaware River region to be eligible. Photos may be from any season.

Photographers may submit no more than two photos via the Conservancy’s website from Monday, August 3 until Monday, August 31. The winning photos will be chosen by a panel of judges, along with one People’s Choice, and will be hung at the ARTery gallery in Milford, PA, in November. The ARTery is a cooperative owned and operated by successful and emerging artists and artisans from the Tri-State area.

Entrants must agree to the Official Rules and submit a $10 entry fee to be eligible; youth entries are free. Visit   www.delawarehighlands.org/photo-contest for details, to download the official rules and submit an entry; contact kate@delawarehighlands.org with any questions.

‘Born in a Trunk’ with RR’s Jonathan Charles Fox

FORESTBURGH, NY — On Friday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. author, columnist and performer Jonathan Charles Fox will present an exclusive one-night-only evening of personal storytelling based on his early years in show business.

“Yeah, I know my way around a theatre,” monologist Fox said during an interview with The Forestburgh Playhouse last week, “and I have a story or two to tell about the old days. I’ve performed in hundreds of productions over more than twenty years” he added. “Probably with some divas, I mean actors, whose names you might recognize. But I’ll swear in a court of law,” he said with a wink. “That you didn’t hear it from me.”

“Nothing is scripted, nothing is memorized” Fox said by way of explanation, “and I never really know where the evening will take us, since a lot of that rests in the hands of the audience, who also play a part in the show. Think of it as an entertaining conversation over cocktails,” Fox added, “One that’s just between us,” he laughed. “But as usual, I’ll be doing most of the talking.”
