JUDY HEINLE

Judy Heinle of White Mills, PA, died suddenly of a heart attack on March 28. She would have been 78 on March 29. Judy, who grew up in West Haven, CT, was born in Dover, NJ in 1941 to Arthur Heinle and Mildred Lillie Heinle, who had both grown up in this area. She earned a BA in nursing from the University of Bridgeport, CT, and went on to earn a MS degree in community health education from Hunter College, NY and a doctorate in public health from Columbia University, NY. Her many accomplishments in the area of public health included The Door, a center of alternatives for youth, which she co-founded in 1971, the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Health Center, where she worked as a nurse practitioner, and Project Hope in Colombia, South America, where she spent two years teaching public health. She held major positions at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Independent Care Systems in Manhattan and Montifiore Home Health Agency in Bronx, NY.

She sang alto with the Wayne Choralaires, volunteered with WJFF Radio Catskill, was a member of the River Walk Buddhist Sangha and traveled extensively.  

She leaves behind her godson Jarl Thunberg, her nieces Tammy Heinle Paredes and Tracy Heinle Johnson, her grand-nephew Jaden Heinle, her cousins Craig (Terry) Heinle and Brian (Beth) Heinle, many other Heinle and Lillie relatives, her treasured cats Ototo and Joya, and several dozen close friends who loved her dearly and will miss her immensely. Her parents, brother William Heinle, and nephew Evan Heinle preceded her in death.
