John Mark Zub of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Yulan, NY; Boulder, CO; Edison, NJ; and Iselin, NJ; passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2020 at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. He was 64 years old.

He was born on May 1, 1956 in Iselin, NJ, son of the late Henry Zub and the late Eleanor Connallon Zub. He has three brothers and two sisters. He was a graduate of John P. Stevens High School in Edison, NJ.

John worked many jobs in his life: a master carpenter, a boat builder and a caregiver, to name a few. He was a maker, a creator, a devoted son and brother, and a loving father. To know John was to know his kind heart and gentle spirit, and he always made strangers feel like family. John treasured all creatures, great and small. He was incredibly creative and a true savant who loved great books, excellent music, environmentalism, gardening and intellectual conversation. His dry, witty humor and sparkling blue eyes brought a smile and infectious, belly-aching laughter to all who knew him. John’s generosity extended even after death—his final act was to give the gift of life to others through organ, eye and tissue donation.

John had the incisive mind of a philosopher, the passionate heart of a poet and the visionary soul of an artist. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Nicole; his brothers, Michael, Gerald, and David; his sisters, Patricia and Barbara; his nephews, Timothy and Logan; his nieces, Cristi, Rebecca, Breanna, Abbey, Savanna and Delanie; and many other family members. He is predeceased by his nephew, Michael Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s name to Edison Wetlands Association, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting human health and the environment in New Jersey, at www.edisonwetlands.org.

John will be cremated at Genesis Funeral Home in Hollywood, FL (954/512-8588).
