John F. Hector

John F. Hector, of Narrowsburg, NY a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. The son of the late Fred and Agnes (McGarry) Hector, he was born March 14, 1932 in Newark, NJ. He was 88 years old. 

John was married to Kathleen (Igoe), who survives. John graduated from Narrowsburg High School. During the Korean War, John enlisted in the AirForce and served four years before being honorably discharged and returning home. John was a retired printer, salesmen and delivery person for Rasmussen Furniture and, on occasion, a greeter for the Rasmussen Funeral Home. John also volunteered his time for the Tusten Ambulance as a driver. He was an enthusiastic Yankee and Giants fan. During retirement, he was an active member of the Cricket Hill Golf Club. John enjoyed bowling and, in his earlier years, coaching his son’s little league teams. 

A family statement reads: “Dad was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. He always had a smile and a lively laugh. He will forever be in our hearts.” 

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his two daughters, Eileen Joyce of Manhasset, NY and Jeanine Hector of Narrowsburg; his two sons, John F. Hector Jr. of San Diego, CA and Michael Hector of Narrowsburg; his eight grandchildren: Katie Williams, Colleen Joyce, Lauren Joyce, Michael Joyce, Eric J. Hector Jr., Kyle Hector, Natalia Hector and Liam Hector; his great-grandson, Sylas Hector, and his great-granddaughters, Brooke and Eden Williams; his sister, Mary Loretta Goetz; and his dear friends, Ed and Doreen Kraus. 

John is predeceased by his son, Eric J. Hector Sr. and his sister, Betty Card. 

Visitation will take place Saturday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, located at 3412 Rte. 97, Barryville, NY. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, and interment will follow at the Glen Cove Cemetery, located on Kirk Road in Narrowsburg. 

Donations can be made in John’s name to Tusten Ambulance, Rte. 97, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
