NARROWSBURG, NY — Joe Jencks, a 25-year veteran of the international folk music circuit, an award-winning songwriter and a celebrated vocalist based in northern Illinois, will preach with word and song at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 3 at the worship service of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UDUUF). The public is invited.
After performing and preaching at hundreds of Unitarian Universalist congregations in the U.S., Canada and Ireland, Jencks now brings to the river valley his music and his narrative about meaningful growth to weave a thoughtful tapestry of hope, reflection and action.
Jencks has penned several number-one folk songs, including the ever-relevant "Lady of The Harbor" and the especially timely "Who Will Speak for Me.” He is known for his powerful, socially conscious songwriting, and often writes songs that address themes of justice, compassion and resilience.
This song reflects those qualities, calling attention to advocacy and standing up for others. "Incrementalism is given a bad reputation in many circles," Jencks said, "But step by step and piece by piece is the only way to organize for sustainability and change."
Jencks has performed and preached in over 200 Unitarian Universalist congregations in the US, Canada, and Ireland, is a dual US-Irish citizen, and has also served as a Cultural Ambassador with the US State Department.
The Sunday morning services of the UDUUF are held in person at 10:15 AM in the Narrowsburg Union, 7 Erie Ave., Room 102, and livestreamed on Zoom (see link below).
