Being a native Tusten resident, I have enjoyed the Narrowsburg Fire Department’s parade since I was just a young girl. This past week as our town celebrated our nation’s independence, I was appalled at what I witnessed.

I have received complaints from several community members regarding the same. Ned Lang sponsored a float in the parade that not only carried an angry political message, but had open drinking by numerous individuals that made a mockery of our nation’s military personnel.

In addition those same individuals were shouting to the crowd using foul language, many people heard the “f” word used several times in a very short distance where there were many young children watching/listening.

Parades are celebratory in nature and are not a proper venue for politics; it doesn’t happen in the New York City parades or even in the St. Patricks Day or Von Steuben Day parades in our neighboring town of Yulan.
