‘Horsebook’ at the Arts Nest

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — “Horsebook,” a solo exhibition by photographer Lila King, is on view until February 28, 2026 at the Arts Nest. An opening reception and artist talk will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the gallery.

King turns her lens toward one of the most mythologized figures in visual culture—the horse—and focuses on its contradictions, complexities and power.

Shot exclusively on 35mm black-and-white film over a nine-month period across upstate New York and New England, the work is described as a study in presence and perception. Through a collection of large-scale prints, “‘Horsebook’ challenges viewers to see the horse not just as symbol or spectacle, but as sentient subject—alive with gesture, mystery and meaning. It is in the tension between surface and spirit that this body of work resides,” a press release reads.

At the reception, King will share samples of her process, explaining the deeper meaning of “Horsebook.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Arts Nest is located at the Delaware Valley Opera Center, 6692 Rte. 52.
