MONTICELLO, NY — Ten Monticello High School Seniors were presented with Monticello Kiwanis Scholarships during a virtual meeting of the club on June 21. Each of the recipients shared their future plans for schooling and their professional aspirations.
A total of $10,000 was awarded in scholarships to the following students: Amanda Bowdren, Founders Scholarship; Max Baum, Ruth Appel Memorial Scholarship; Breanah Bracy, Leo Rappaport Memorial Scholarship; Aidan Dietz, Max Schapiro Memorial Scholarship; Krishna Foster, Irving Kaufman Memorial Scholarship; Emily LaRuffa, Rose Raimond Memorial Scholarship; Dylan Price, Max Schapiro Memorial Scholarship; Claudia Silverstein, Monticello Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship; Carson Somers, Ben Golden

HONESDALE, PA — During the months of May and June, the Tri-Gal 4-H Club members collected items for the Dessin Animal Shelter: dog food, cat food, cleaning supplies, toys and various other animal care items.
On Tuesday, July 5, president Emma Modrovsky and reporter Channing Rutledge met at Dessin to deliver donations.

MILFORD, PA — The Greater Pike Community Foundation has announced that Delaware Valley High School student Yoshi has received the first award from The Reggie Cheong-Leen & Peter Spielhagen Scholarship Fund. Sumitomo will use the grant of up to four years of full tuition to attend Penn State University and major in computer science.
The fund was established at Greater Pike by Reggie Cheong-Leen to grant a scholarship to a Delaware Valley High School senior with demonstrated financial need and academic excellence whose parents were immigrants to the United States and who is planning to attend an accredited trade school, college or university.
Sumitomo is a member of several student honor societies and was on the high school varsity volleyball and soccer teams.

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Every year, the Hope Heart Award is presented to a staff member that has been with New Hope Community (NHC) for one to five years. 2021’s carefully selected recipient is registered nurse Trudy.
A press release reads, “Trudy has always played a vital role in enhancing the lives of the individuals we support, but particularly at the Gary Goldberg Residence at 410 Larry’s Way during COVID-19. Never complaining and always acting as a leader, Trudy braved the difficulties of the pandemic when so many were at home or too sick to work. She exemplifies the requirements of the Hope Heart Award of being person-centered, passionate and dedicated to NHC’s mission. Trudy remained steady in her commitment to being the best nurse she could be when the individuals and staff needed her most.”
Trudy’s family attended virtually and cheered her on, along with her colleagues and leadership members.
HAWLEY, PA and BETHEL, NY — The Delaware Highlands Conservancy has awarded its Delaware Highlands Conservancy/Yeaman Scholarship for $1,175 to Amy Carpenter, a 2021 graduate from Delaware Valley High School, and the Vanessa Van Gorder Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 to Ella Clabaugh, a 2021 graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School.
The Yeaman scholarship has been awarded annually since 2004 to a student planning to pursue a field in environmental studies in college, given in honor of the conservancy’s founder, Barbara Yeaman. Recipient Amy Carpenter will attend Susquehanna University to study earth and environmental science.
The Vanessa Van Gorder Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 in honor of Vanessa, who passed away on December 26, 2014; she was passionate about the outdoors and loved exploring the region with her friends and family. Recipient Ella Clabaugh will attend Lafayette College. She is passionate about conservation and the environment and intends to study environmental science.
