Honesdale police thank sheriff’s office

HONESDALE, PA — During the county commissioner’s business meeting on January 16, the Honesdale Borough Police Department formally thanked the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department for its assistance in responding to a bomb threat made against the courthouse on December 26, 2019.

The threat was allegedly called in by Jeremiah Guthrie from the nearby Turkey Hill convenience store. After briefly closing the courthouse, no bombs were found. According to his brother, Guthrie was set to be sentenced that day. He was also one of seven that were involved in a drug bust in October 2018.

Police lieutenant Robert Langman made the arrest, but he said he could not have done it alone. He specifically thanked Deputy Ron Kominiski, who helped him track down the suspect in “record time,” working only off a vague description of the individual. While police were searching for the suspect, Kominiski made contact with Guthrie, and, using his intuition, connected him to the bomb threat.

“This gut instinct expedited the investigation and eventually the arrest of the subject who called in the threat,” Langman said, who thanked Kominiski and other deputies for the numerous times they have come to the police’s aid “without hesitation.”

Langman said that the bomb threat was just one of several times in 2019 that the sheriff’s office had assisted the borough in making an arrest. For example, sheriff’s deputies, specifically Kominiski and his K9 partner Manfred, assisted police in arresting a man for possession of meth after getting pulled over for an expired inspection sticker.

“With the coming of the new year, we hope that this relationship will continue as we all strive to maintain a safe and enduring relation in the law enforcement community,” Langman said.
Chairman Brian Smith commended both the police and sheriff’s department for their ability to work together when necessary.
