HONESDALE, PA — Jeremiah Guthrie, 50, of Honesdale has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat made against the Wayne County Courthouse, which caused the evacuation of the building for about an hour on Dec. 26.

Police say Guthrie called them while he was at a convenience store at about 9:00 am. He said on the phone, "I'm going to say this once and only once there is a bomb set to go off at the Wayne County Courthouse," before leaving the store.

The courthouse was evacuated immediately and members of the Honesdale Borough Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office conducted a search of the building, and also a search of the surrounding area. Nothing suspicious was found, and workers returned to the building.

While the search was being conducted Jeremiah’s brother Joshua drove by the scene and spoke to police, saying that Jeremiah had been scheduled to be sentenced that morning. Jeremiah was charged with making terroristic threats.

Jeremiah was one of seven people arrested in March after an undercover investigation into illegal sales of methamphetamine in the county.

A press release from the office of Wayne County District Attorney Patrick Robinson at the time said, “during the period of October 4, 2018 through December 9, 2018, Wayne County Drug Task Force Detectives utilized a confidential informant to purchase approximately 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 20 bags of heroin in three separate transactions for $2,700.00. These transactions took place in Texas Township, Berlin Township and Hawley Borough.”
