Honesdale High honors senior booters

HONESDALE, PA — On Monday, September 21, the Honesdale High School (HHS) boys’ varsity soccer squad kicked off the new season by posting a 3 to 1 victory over the visiting Knights of Scranton High School.

Before the match, the local high school honored the seven 12th graders on the team with a mid-field rite of passage celebration titled Senior Sport Night Recognition.

In introducing the players, Honesdale High’s assistant principal John Kretschmer presented a few comments about each senior as they were joined by their parents on the field of play.

Connor Coar was accompanied by Matt and Mary Coar. A four-year member of the varsity soccer program, he serves as manager of this year’s squad. Other interests and activities at HHS and beyond include basketball, track & field, student council, Interact Club, FBLA, assistant director of graduation (2019 and 2020), senior video producer, TV productions independent study, president of the St. John’s Youth Group, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and alter server and junior lector at St. Mary’s Church. “My plans after graduation are to attend a four-year university to major in sports broadcasting with hopes to work at ESPN in the future,” said Coar.

Zach Eisele was joined by Nicole Dehaven and Jeff Bockelkamp. He is a three-year member of the varsity soccer team. Other interests and activities at HHS include center stage club, track & field, ski club, NHS and student council. His plans after graduation are to study pre-med at Pittsburgh University.

Gibson Goodenough was escorted by Stacey and Forrest Goodenough. Co-captain this season, Goodenough is a four-year member of the varsity soccer team. Other interests and activities at HHS and beyond include TASS soccer, boys varsity tennis, Mr. Garing’s stage crew, member of Freedom Lodge 88, Communities That Care volunteer, NHS and a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Goodenough plans to pursue a secondary education degree at a four-year college.

Braydon Hanson was accompanied by Scott and Danielle Hanson. He is a four-year member of the varsity soccer squad and a co-captain this year. Other interests and activities at HHS and beyond include kicker for the varsity football team, varsity grapplers, varsity tennis team, four-year member of the student council, Class of 20212 Club, disc golf and an active student in the Level Up program with Lackawanna.

Liam Kase was joined by Renee and Peter Kase. He is a four-year member of the varsity team. Other interests and activities at HHS include the Class of 2021 Club. At the moment, he is undecided about what to do after graduation.

Bobby Kretschmer was escorted by Bob and Heather Kretschmer. He is a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and serves as one of the co-captains. Other interests and activities at HHS and beyond include track & field, TASS soccer, NHS, Class of 2021 secretary, HHS Rotary Interact Club, Wayne County Community Foundation youth advisory committee, Wayne Memorial community advisory board and Honesdale Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kretschmer has participated in several high school academic competitions: Marywood Math Contest, American Math Contest, King’s College Math Contest, American Chemical Society Challenge Exam and the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. He plans to study to become a physical therapist after graduation.

Ethan Rickard has been on the varsity team for three years. Other interests and activities at HHS and beyond include tennis, weight lifting, and “spending time with family and friends, going on long walks.” Of his plans after high school, he said, “Attend a four-year college and live the best life I possibly can.”
