Plein air workshops with Jay Brooks

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Jay Brooks is offering two plein air workshops on Saturdays, July 11 and July 18; both will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. alongside the Willowemoc Creek.

The goal will be “to see and capture our first reactions to a natural setting” through the use of line, mass and tone in landscape sketches. Be prepared to paint from two to four canvases each day.

Jay Brooks is a member of the Salmagundi Club/NYC where he recently won the Tuttle Memorial Award for his cityscape, “Brooklyn Navy Yard.” Although Brooks’s main interest is the rural NY landscape where he lives, he has painted in the American West, Puerto Rico, the Austrian and German Alps, Northern Italy, Ireland and the Australian outback and rain forests.

Brooks began painting at age 14, under the classical apprenticeship of John Piesley and the plein air instruction of Charles Movalli, a disciple of the late Emile Gruppe where he was introduced to the pre-impressionist styles of Corot, George Inness and Asher B. Durand.
