LAKE ARIEL, PA — Lacawac Sanctuary Environmental Education Center was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation for its Nature Connection Summer Camps, which provide summer experiences for persons with special needs in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
The programs serve children of average to above average intelligence who have a variety of developmental, social, emotional and learning issues. Diagnoses include Asperger syndrome, verbal and non-verbal learning disabilities, speech and language issues, and sensory integration issues.
“The support of the NEPA Health Care Foundation” stated Craig Lukatch, President of Lacawac Sanctuary, “will help us further our mission of educating the public about the environment and ways to connect to nature. The Foundation’s mission aligns with our work to improve the complete physical, mental and social well-being of the residents of Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming counties. For their support we are very grateful.”
