Bulldogs wrap up sports for 2021-2022

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — On June 8, the Sullivan West School District community turned out in force to celebrate the accomplishments of their Bulldogs scholar-athletes at the 2021-2022 Spring Athletic Awards presentation in the high school auditorium.

In his opening remarks to the assembly, high school principal Mark Plescia talked about what he called “the controlled chaos and life of high school sports,” and what it means to be a successful student athlete in these challenging times.

In the wake of athletic director David Eggleton introducing the platform of coaches, it was the moment everyone was waiting for—the presentation of team awards. It was a procession of 28  seniors, who received their hard-earned plaques for participating in at least three varsity sports, and was followed by the individual awards for the recently closed season. The year-end special senior athletes awards, including the Coaches Awards, Milt Gaebel Awards, Most Valuable Athletes Awards and two scholarship awards were also presented.

The latter were created to preserve the cherished memories of two former local high school grads: David F. Curreri and Billy Moran.

Curreri (1983-2010) graduated from Sullivan West/Narrowsburg, while Moran (1960-1981) graduated from Delaware Valley Central School.

In his closing remarks to the senior scholar-athletes, Eggleton said, “Best of luck… we will miss you all.” To underclassmen, he said, “We look forward to seeing you all compete in Sullivan West athletics in 2022-2023.”

The annual celebratory event was live-streamed and recorded for posterity. It can be viewed by visiting the YouTube channel for the Sullivan West Central School Athletics Department at www.swcsd.org.
