SKINNERS FALLS, NY — Local observers are now tracking The Thing Hanging Off the Skinners Falls-Milanville Bridge.
“This wouldn’t happen if they’d maintained the bridge,” said one.
Jeff Dexter of Damascus Township, PA, took the photo above, which he says shows a disconnected brace. He said inspectors were at the bridge on Sunday morning and took their own photographs.
The historic bridge, built in 1902, was shut down five years ago after failing an emergency inspection. The New York-Pennsylvania Joint Interstate Bridge Commission is now leading studies on the bridge’s fate—whether it should be restored, replaced, or removed.
The “do nothing” option is not actually an option, Kate Farrow of NTM Engineering told the River Reporter in April since it would result in the bridge collapsing into the Delaware.
Hope that Hanging Thing gets the message.
