Spring is almost here, and it’s time to start preparing your home for the warmer months ahead. Here are some tips to help you get your house and yard in shape. Although many of the tasks can be do-it-yourself projects, hiring professionals can also help to move things along and get the job done right.

1.    Start cleaning the yard of winter debris.
2.    Hire a dumpster or contact a sanitation company to haul away rubbish.
3.    Check trees for damage; have a professional remove dead or hanging tree limbs or branches.
4.    Repair sidewalks, pavements and driveways for cracks and damage.
5.    Replace old fencing.
6.    Add or expand a front or back porch. Screen it in before insects become a problem.
7.    Repair your front steps.
8.    Paint your front door a fresh new color.
9.    Clean, repair, or replace screen doors and windows.
10.    Wash windows and replace broken panes or damaged frames.
11.    Consider replacing old windows and exterior doors with new, energy-efficient models.
12.    Pressure wash your house, deck and driveway, or hire a professional to do the job.
13.    Touch up or have the house’s exterior painted.
14.    Check out your home’s foundation for cracks or damage.
15.    Replace an old or broken garage door.
16.    Clean out, repair, or replace your gutters.
17.    Look at your roof for damage. Call in a roofing expert to replace or repair any missing or curling shingles.
18.    Have a specialist tune up your AC system; don’t wait for summer.
19.    Do an inventory of your lawn tools; replace any old or damaged items.
20.    Have your lawn mower tuned up and sharpen the blades.
21.    Get your chimney and heating system cleaned by a professional.
22.    Using binoculars, examine the exterior brickwork and chimney for gaps or cracks. Call in a professional to makes repairs.
23.    Look for any leaks or water damage to your basement; repair any wetness, mold, or mildew problems. 
24.    Clean out the garage and put away winter tools.
