FRESH: Return of the rockets

CALLICOON, NY — Exactly 30 years ago, six months before WJFF went on the air, it hosted its first benefit ever to bring it to the airwaves with a hot Sullivan County band as the sole headliner. Three decades later, on Friday, August 23 from 8 to 10 p.m., Rosie and the Rockets are coming together to play again. This time, it will be at Rafter’s Tavern.

This rock n’ roll, blues machine is led by singer/guitarist Elizabeth Rose and baritone saxophonist Don Castellow; drummer Larry Steiger, bassist Chip Forelli, tenor saxophonist Ralph Liberto, trumpeter Bill Berry and singer/percussionist Brewster Smith join forces to create the Rocket’s big-band sound.

When asked who had the idea to bring the Rockets back, Elizabeth Rose answered, “Looking back at a photo of our… benefit for WJFF, I noticed the date: August 1989. So this was a cosmic coincidence aligned with the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and the moon in the seventh house.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.bit.ly/rafterstavern or call 845/887-9882.
