A Grey Towers weekend devoted to forestry

Posted

MILFORD, PA — Attendees of the 15th annual Festival of Wood should expect two days of fun and education in a wide variety of categories, all of which promote responsible use of forest resources. On Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and 4, the festival will take place at Grey Towers, the historical home of two-term PA governor and the U.S. Forest Service’s first chief, Gifford Pinchot.

Free workshops, demonstrations and activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Events include a live animal exhibit, tree-pruning workshop and a Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl children’s show.

A Pennsylvania Wood Mobile is an additional, educational, free exhibit. According to a press release, the Wood Mobile is “[an] outreach tool of the Pennsylvania Hardwoods Development Council [that] educates the public about Pennsylvania’s forests and sustainable forest management—securing the wood products we need today while protecting the trees of tomorrow. The mobile exhibit uses interactive activities and displays to promote the responsible use of forest resources and an understanding of the forest industry to the public.”

Tours of the Grey Towers mansion, completed in 1886, will also be available, costing $5 for visitors 12-years-old and up.
