Frances Joanne (Schulz) Lenwell, 75, passed in the early morning hours of August 29, 2018 with family at her bedside following another one of those “damn seizures.”

Born September 9, 1942 in Callicoon, NY to Otto and Anne-Sophia (Tollefson) Schulz, she grew up in Lake Huntington and attended Narrowsburg Central School through graduation in 1960.

A longtime resident of Orlando, FL, Fran worked at Showalter Airpark and Orlando International Airport; and later at Upper Delaware Campground and as a volunteer with Damascus Ambulance Corps upon moving back to the Delaware River Valley. She was also a member of the Galilee Grange.

Fran loved people, a good laugh, and a good time. It was often said she was the person everyone felt most comfortable confiding to, without ever fearing judgment. She was “real” about life, and expressed herself without hesitation, though had such a uniquely charismatic way of doing so. In chatting with family about fondest memories, it was said, “She’s the only person who ever lovingly cussed me out.” Until dementia really took its toll, she could recite every dirty joke she’d ever heard. In fact, the only filter her mouth ever employed was that on the end of her cigarette.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Steve) Motichka of Tyler Hill, and Julia (Andrew) Burger of Rome, NY; grandchildren Joelee and Jenna Motichka, Paul (Kelsey), Stacey, and Matthew Szwayka, Alexandria and Alea Burger; her sister Ida DeVita and brother Harvey Schulz of Orlando, FL; as well as her sister-in-law Un-Joo; and many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close; and long-distance lifelong companion Georgie Hennigan, England.

Upon arrival in heaven, we expect she’s busy reuniting with her parents, brother Freddy Schulz, infant son Walter Richard Plain II, her first husband Walter Plain, and favorite husband Herman Grubb, as well as attending every penny social, pinochle and Yahtzee game the sky has to offer. After 25 years of sobriety, she also looked forward to reuniting with old friends over a guilt-free beer at the “other side’s” version of The Nutshell, BlueJay, Memory Lane, Pete’s Pub, and The Oak Ridge (Orlando).

The family wishes to thank all of Fran’s caregivers at Wayne Woodlands Manor for their kindness and support over the past six years; and the emergency room, third- and fourth-floor/hospice staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for their kindness and support in her final days.

Private services will be held.

Memorial donations in Fran’s name can be made to Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps., PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415.
