Former Sullivan Sheriff Hogue dies

Posted

Former Sheriff Dan Hogue, who served two terms in Sullivan County, passed away on May 22. He was 74 years old.

Friends said he had been ill for some time.

He remained active after retiring in 2005 and last year was appointed to a committee in charge of reviewing the state of law enforcement in the county.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Hogue was known to many in the county as "a cop's cop," who was firm but compassionate.

His career also included 25 years with the Monticello Police Department. He left that and joined the Seriff's office serving as undersheriff until then Sheriff Joe Wasser’s retirement in 1997. All together, Hogue served in law enforcement for 40 years.
