Fatal shooting in Tusten

TUSTEN, NY — The New York State Police Bureau of Investigation (BCI) Liberty is looking into the details surrounding a homicide that occurred in the Town of Tusten on May 22.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., troopers were called to a residence on Lake Country Lane in response to a shooting.

Upon arrival, troopers located Anthony J. Williams, 24 of Fremont, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Troopers immediately began life-saving measures until EMS arrived on the scene. EMS took over after.

Williams succumbed to his injuries while EMS crews tried to resuscitate him.

Troopers arrested John Rhodes, 81, of 256 Lake Country Lane in connection with the homicide. Rhodes was charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 3rd Degree. He was arraigned in the Town of Tusten Court and brought before Justice Klu Padu. He was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.

State police were assisted by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.

An investigation is currently underway.
