Fatal accident on Christmas still under investigation

LIBERTY, NY — The Village of Liberty Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Rte. 52 near Sullivan Avenue in the Village of Liberty on Christmas.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Hannah Reggio, 17, of Middletown, and Joseph Young, 15, of Fallsburg.

The Village of Liberty Police Department sent out an update on Monday, December 30 regarding the investigation into the fatal accident. It said:

"While the Village of Liberty Police Department continues to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the fatal motor vehicle accident on 12/25/24 the preliminary investigation has concluded that no criminal charges or tickets will be issued to the operator of the 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 pick up truck, James Wynkoop, 57 of Grahamsville, NY.

The Village of Liberty Police Department continues to work closely with the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Team, the Sullivan County Coroner's Office and the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office as we continue to investigate all the facts and circumstances leading to this tragic accident."
