LIBERTY, NY — In celebration if its 100 year anniversary, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) held a family hike fundraiser on Saturday, October 18. Money earned and awareness spread at this event supports the CCESC Centennial Campaign’s initiative to offer future alternative energy education to the public, specifically solar energy education for youth. An energy demonstration area was featured as a main attraction, equipped with a functioning solar panel from Cornell University. Health and fitness was also promoted heavily at the hike with resources on making healthy choices in families and the benefits of physical activity. Individuals and families registered and walked the CCESC Turtle Spring Nature Trail located behind the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd. Volunteers, staff and BOCES Career & Tech program students worked in September to spruce up the trail and prepare it for this autumn event.
