Fall festival and duck race a triumph

WOODRIDGE and HURLEYVILLE, NY — Recently, the Kiwanis of Woodridge, NY hosted its fourth annual Fallsburg Fall Festival on Green Avenue in the Village of Woodridge. Musicians, vendors, food, crafts, and fun and games were on tap for all to enjoy. And there were raffles too.

The place was jumping with cornhole games, face painting, crafts and contests for the kids, great music to sing along or dance to and fabulous food. All involved had an amazing time.

Special thanks go to the sponsors of the festival: Jeff Bank, Murray’s Chicken, Mountain Service Distributors, Colonial Memorial Funeral Homes and Catskill Hudson Bank. Thanks also go to Joan Collins, the village’s mayor, and the village board for allowing us to hold the festival in their village. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day or a more accommodating community.

The next day saw our second annual duck race at Morningside Park in Hurleyville. Another gorgeous, though chilly, day. Only one problem—there was no water in the stream. The lack of substantial rains throughout the summer meant that the stream coming from Morningside Park Lake was completely dry.

The day was saved, however, by the Hurleyville Fire Department. Chief Charles Payne and several of the members of his Department brought their tanker truck and flooded the stream, saving the day for our Duck Race. We cannot thank them enough.

Duck race winners were as follows: First place: Rozalind Curless; second place: Christine Blakesley; third place: Charles Decker; and the Last Pokey Duck: Luis Velez.

Congratulations to them all.
