LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society will open a group exhibition featuring Mermer Blakeslee, Dale Emmart, Theresa Hackett and Margot McLean at the CAS Art Center on Saturday, February 2.

The opening will host an artists’ talk beginning at 3 p.m., following by a reception from 4 to 5 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until March 9. Blakeslee and McLean are presenting their collaborative work “Negotiating the Gnarly,” of McLean’s drawings beside Blakeslee’s poetry. Emmart’s series, “Nocturne for 17-18,” has been informed by observations of plumes of industrial smoke, exhaust and tendrils of smoke rising from rural barn barrels. The series, which also includes plein-air landscape work and abstraction, is a prolonged meditation on environmental risk. Hackett’s paintings take the form of solutions to problems the artist has constructed for herself. She mixes her paint with fossilized remains of hard-shelled algae.
