LACKAWAXEN, PA — Summer’s here, and learning how a child can enjoy it safely could mean everything to your family.
Lackawaxen Township, its four fire departments and EMS will sponsor a child safety fair on Saturday, June 11, beginning at 11 a.m., at Veterans Memorial Park.
Titled “Everyone Can Be a Hero,” the event will teach families what they need to stay safe, a statement said. Kids can see state-of-the-art ambulance and fire equipment, and there will be signups for training in CPR and first aid.
The State Police will provide child safety seat inspections and the Park Service will review the proper sizing and wearing of life jackets. Those checks will keep children safe in the car and on the water.
Staff from the 911 call center will be on hand to teach kids and adults how to dial 911 and what to say to get rescuers to your scene as quickly as possible.
The Red Cross will sign up folks to donate blood and recruit adults to be part of those that help the community.
“Our message is this: ‘Everyone can be a hero,’” a spokesperson said. So kids are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero costume while they learn what to do in case of an emergency.
