NEW YORK — The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) announced awards of more than $28 million through the state-funded Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). The EPF Grant Program for Parks, Heritage and Preservation supports matching grants for the acquisition, planning, development and improvement of parks, historic properties and heritage areas located within New York. Funds are awarded to municipalities or nonprofits with an ownership interest.

The Town of Fallsburg received an award of $186,794 to replace a culvert in the Sheldrake Stream watershed. The culvert is located along a busy route connecting to state and county roads for commuters, school buses and tourists.

Sullivan Friends of the Upper Delaware River, Inc., Berry Brook Reconnection and Friends of the Upper Delaware River received nearly $900,000 to replace three culverts in the Town of Colchester. The replacements will reconnect four miles of habitat for native brook trout and other aquatic organisms, as well as improve infrastructure to promote flood resilience, within the Berry Brook watershed.

An award of $10 million was given to the Town of Fallsburg for wastewater treatment improvements and general upgrades in the South Fallsburg wastewater treatment facility. This project will improve the water quality of the Neversink River.
