Grey Towers hosts Rachel Carson film

MILFORD, PA—A free outdoor film screening of “A Sense of Wonder,” the story of biologist Rachel Carson’s love for the natural world and her fight to defend it, is planned for Saturday, July 14, at 8 p.m. at Grey Towers National Historic Site, 122 Old Owego Tpke.

The 55-minute documentary portrays Carson, who has been hailed as the patron saint of the modern environmental movement, and is perhaps best known for her groundbreaking book “Silent Spring,” which shook the world with Carson’s revelations about America’s use of pesticides in the years following World War II. The showing commemorates the book’s 50th anniversary.

“A Sense of Wonder” will be introduced by Grey Towers Heritage Association board member Leila Pinchot, who will draw a connection between Carson’s work and the conservation work of the Pinchot family and lead a discussion following the film.

“A Sense of Wonder” will be shown rain or shine in the outdoor amphitheater or tented pool terrace area. Bring lawn chairs or blankets; picnic dinners are encouraged. Email greytowers@fs.fed.us or call 570/296-9630.
