HONESDALE, PA —  Darnell Moment, age 31 of Tobyhanna PA, was sentenced by President Judge Janine Edwards on Thursday, April 7, 2022, to a total of 5 years to 10 years in a State Correctional Institution.  On February 17, 2022, the defendant entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Person Not to Possess a Firearm (F1).  The criminal complaint is enclosed with this release.

 On September 11, 2020, a confidential informant made arrangements to buy heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine from an individual known as "Prince" a/k/a Defendant, Darnell Moment.

The defendant agreed to meet at the Liberty Plaza Gas Station/Burger King Parking Lot, Lehigh Township, Wayne County.  The defendant indicated that he would bring the drugs.  

PSP Troopers made contact with the defendant at the gas station while he was attempting to deliver the drugs and took the defendant into custody.  The troopers observed a silver handgun in plain view sitting in the center console cup holder of the Defendant’s vehicle and took the firearm into custody as well.

A query of the firearm revealed the same firearm had recently been reported stolen from a burglary in Wayne County.  The defendant acknowledged that he does not have a concealed and carry permit and the Defendant's criminal history revealed the defendant was found guilty of enumerated offenses prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. 

Wayne County District Attorney Howell stated, “Mr. Moment’s lengthy criminal history has led to an appropriate lengthy sentence of incarceration.”
