Disappointed in the reporting

Posted

I am writing to express my disappointment with the reporting of the newspaper. I was surprised when I called to cancel my subscription that the individual I spoke to did not ask why I felt this to be necessary, since I consider myself a long-term reader of your newspaper.

First, I am disappointed in your article about the eagle/fireworks issue. I felt this was extremely poor timing on your account and cost the Lava Fire Department and local businesses a large sum of money. If in fact your reporter was aware of the situation, why was the article not published last year? That would have given the community and government agencies time to research and seek a satisfactory solution.

Second, I am disappointed that you stopped your relationship with Richard Ross. The local sports reporting was always a favorite. Also, your online site contained three articles about the Eldred graduation, but failed to list one article about Sullivan West. As a taxpayer, teacher, club advisor and parent, I do not feel your newspaper covers the area school and education issues.

Finally, I feel a newspaper’s responsibility is to report on the news, not “make the news.” Your lack of thorough research and commitment to presenting both sides of an issue is what finally made me decide to cancel my subscription. Please refund my money for the undelivered issues by mailing a check to me. Or better yet, send the money to the Lava Fire Company to help defray the cost of their fireworks deposit.
