ALBANY, NY — Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) joined Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy on November 25 to praise Gov. Andrew Cuomo for signing legislation directing the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to develop a coordinated plan for linking existing trails with potential trail corridors. Developing a blueprint for the state’s trail system will unify local trails across the state, creating a network of trails with major spines and connecting routes, and ensure that all parts of the state have access to quality outdoor active recreation trails. This effort builds off of the momentum of the Empire State Trail’s completion in 2020 and supports additional opportunities that can transform the statewide trail system into a true network, connecting local trails with the main spine of the Empire State Trail and cementing New York’s position as the nation’s leader in multi-use trails.
“This exciting legislation will ensure that New York builds upon the momentum of the Empire State Trail,” said Robin Dropkin, executive director of Parks & Trails New York, “We thank Gov. Cuomo, Sen. Kaplan, and Assemblymember Fahy for their leadership and vision in making this plan a reality, and look forward to a future where communities across the state are connected by a world-class multi-use trail network.”
