Cochecton eats

I hope all the fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, godfathers, uncles, brothers, cousins and single moms who pull double duty all had a great Father’s Day. As you all know, I spend a lot of time on Facebook; I saw a post on the Lake Huntington page that I would like to share with you all. I got it from Judith Rosati Bernstein. She was out walking and came across this sign that read, “New York Lake Huntington family of Sarah Huntington, wife of Dr. John Calkin. 1752 Landowner, 1st doctor. 1880 V. Dittmar city borders popular summer resorts. J. Brinins 1st postmaster. Sullivan County Historical Society.” I see these signs all around but never stop to read them.

I was out and about on Saturday driving up Route 97 and I saw the sign for Dave’s Backyard Skewers. I met the owners Dave and Jin, I had two hot dogs and a watermelon slush. I really enjoyed talking to them and the layout of their place. They are located at 29 C Meyer Rd. in Cochecton. When you pull in you will see a really big white tent and picnic tables and chairs all laid out so you are really not next to anyone. They are serving chicken, beef and lamb skewers, french fries, mango and watermelon slush and ice tea. While I was waiting for my food, Zeek from the Cochection Fire Station came over to have a chat and place his order. Cochecton is truly blessed with great places to eat. Annies Ruff Cut is going strong with its car-hop service. Henning’s Local patio pick-up is going on and the Fosterdale Café is open and serving their yummy ice cream. Lakeview Pizza and bar is open for takeout only.

Here’s a message from Mike Popollio, president of the Lake Huntington Lake Association: The lake was treated with Seclear on Thursday, June 18. Mike says, yes, the smell is probably from the algae dying. We should see a difference in a few days—keep your fingers crossed.

Litter Pluck is going until Tuesday, June 30. Clean up day will be some time in August. You can get bags and stickers at the town hall. Call 845/932-8360 ext. 11

Be safe, wash your hands and wear your mask.

Keep smiling and have a great week. You can email me at leeniebeans@citlink.net or call 845/252-3568 if you have any news. My new deadline is Friday. You can also check me out in community living.
