ELDRED, NY — We all need a special bowl, said artist Jessie Lazar. The bowl makes everything taste better.
Lazar’s art studio, Sullivan Public, will offer two workshops on ceramics—one for adults and one for grownups and kids—led by Jessie Lazar.
First up is an adult workshop on Friday, July 5 at 2 p.m.
Lazar has been teaching ceramics for nearly 15 years in NYC studios; most recently, she held sold-out classes at Gasworks in Brooklyn.
The Eldred workshops are geared to suit developing potters with experience as well as those new to the medium.
For the July 5 workshop, students will have a range of forms from which to choose. After class, your piece will be dried and fired and then Lazar will glaze and fire them in the color of your choice. Your pots will be completed and ready for you to pick up in a few weeks, or the work can be shipped for a slight fee.
The workshop costs $95 and is limited to 14 participants.
On Wednesday, July 10, families are welcome to paint ceramic bowls in Paint MY Pot. Arrive any time between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Bring your painting skills (or a sweet little painter) to the studio to “paint MY pot.” Each participant will get one cereal bowl made by Lazar to paint with underglazes. After they’ve dried, the piece will be coated in a clear coat of food, microwave- and dishwasher-safe glaze and will be fired for you, ready to pick up (or ship) in about a week. Additional items will be available to add on, such as extra bowls and tumblers, if you’d like a set.
Admission begins at $45 for one painter, and $25 for a sibling; the cost includes a bowl to paint. Additional pieces are available for purchase.
Sullivan Public is located at 16 Proctor Rd. Learn more at www.sullivanpublic.com.
