LACKAWAXEN, PA — The National Park Service and the Zane Grey’s West Society will host the eighth annual Zane Grey Festival at the Zane Grey Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14.

The Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers are what initially drew Zane Grey, a lover of hunting, fishing and the outdoors, to the area. Zane and his brother Romer would eventually settle in Lackawaxen and call the area home. Zane lived in Lackawaxen from 1905 to 1918. Exhibits in the Zane Grey Museum give viewers a better understanding of the life and writing of the famed western author.

Activities at the festival will include activities and a book for children related to becoming an Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Junior Ranger. Through craft activities, children can learn about the natural world that is all around us. They can also take part in a Scavenger Hunt and win a free book by visiting the exhibitors to learn about the area’s natural and cultural history and finding answers to 20 trivia questions. The Steamtown Ramblers will perform songs of the railroad with several cowboy ditties thrown in to put us in the mood of the Wild Wild West at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Wayne County Chapter of the Antique Car Club will grace the back lawn with vintage cars from the early 1900s. Doc Miller and his son will be talking about what it was like to work out on the range in the west and area environmental groups and historical societies will display exhibits about their organizations.

Light refreshments will be served all day. Call 570/685-4871.
