HARRIS, NY — The Catskill Regional Medical Center was recently rated five stars for appendectomy outcomes by Healthgrades in its “2019 Report to the Nation.” Healthgrades is a leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.
Each year, the website evaluates the performances of nearly 4,500 hospitals throughout the country, rating 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions, as well as appendectomy and bariatric surgery outcomes, using data from 15 states and the District of Columbia. A five-star rating means that Catskill Regional Medical Center’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating appendectomies. It also means that patients who were treated with this procedure at hospitals with a five-star rating in 2014 through 2016 have a 65% lower risk of complications than those treated at a one-star hospital.
“Clinical quality varies significantly between hospitals, so it’s important for consumers to use information about outcomes to assess where to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, the chief medical officer at Healthgrades. “This five-star rating for appendectomy showcases the expertise and commitment of Catskill Regional Medical Center to their patients.”
